Rosalyn: Re the dates: They are definitely not set in stone. RootsCampSF is happening the previous weekend, Nov 11-12. The best thing to do is probably take an informal poll among likely organizers and attendees that you know. Hmm... Okay I'm posting a little poll. Not sure if it's going to work yet... -Roz One thing to consider: Is there any chance of coordinating with the MIT event? Maybe you could share a venue, or have it in an adjoining space? Then there could be some cross-pollination. Just an idea :-) -Roz Hi Roz - I'm actually not at all sure I have the capacity to take on leadership - I had figured that since the link to a Boston camp was set up already from the main page, it meant there was already someone/a group "in charge." That said I can certainly help, provided it ends up being on days I can attend. I'm a member of Progressive Democrats of Somerville (also a DfA affiliate), so I'll pass this info on to that group and the Dfa/Progressive Dems group in Cambridge and see what their thoughts are on dates, availabilities, interests in presenting, etc. Re dates, if as now seems clear campaign staff aren't themselves actually involved in organizing the Boston camp, personally and wholly selfishly I lean to the earlier weekend. Thanks for setting up the poll to see what works for more folks. ~ Erica George FWIW, I can't seem to vote in the poll. Anyone else having similar issues? ~ Erica
Rosalyn: RE:Above post I think that this would be a great weekend to do it. It will give campaign staffers some time to wind down. I don't think the event at MIT will at all conflict with the RootsCamp. Re: above Hi, The reason I asked is simply because I know that there is a conflict, for me and a few other folks I work with. It may be that we're the small minority compared to tons of other people but since I was the first one to say anything on the Boston wiki, I figured that might not necessarily be the case. Also, since it's the BarCamp-type geeks of the workd being asked to help spearhead leadership for RootsCamp, and I know a chunk of our local geeks are planning to be at MIT the 17-18, there is a reasonable reason to see a conflict even if you don't agree with me about the content-interest overlap. I see the need to wind down from the election, though - I've worked campaigns, and I agree people need a week to crash after their post-e-day wrapup work, so the previous weekend is possibly too soon. Certainly too soon if the RootsCampBoston organizers are also campaign staffers - but it's not clear if that's the case. It seems several other RootsCamps are scheduled for the previous weekend, fresh after the election. Avoiding that earlier weekend, maybe this camp could be the 18-19? Give us a little less overlap to have to negotiate?? And by being all-weekend, give all the folks who can't attend this sort of thing as part of their day job a little more ability to go, anyway? It all depends on who is actually in charge of the Boston camp and what their reasons were for setting the date, and their flexibility. ~ Erica George
Rosalyn:Is the date of November 17-18 set in stone? It seems kind of arbitrary if there's not yet anything up for Boston. Why I ask is that the Futures of Entertainment conference at MIT is also those days, and while at first blush it may not seem like there'd be an overlap, there actually is, especially in exploring uses of new media in building political communities online. It would suck if the two internet-&-society-type events I most want to attend in Boston in November were on the same exact dates. ~ Erica George
